About Cheri

Being passionate about playing music, Cheri Salvetti persued her dream of a full time career in music over 12 years ago. Her musical talents and professionalism has brought her over 1500 gigs in the past 8 years. Well known on the Mississippi Gulf Coast as "Rhythm", here is what fellow musicians say about her: "She's a rhythm machine"...."Sensitive to the music" and "The audience loves her". Cheri Salvetti, born in Syracuse, NY studied piano first before choosing percussion during her middle and high school years. She played in concert, dixieland and even an all female rock band by age 16. After high school, Cheri enrolled into Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY. There she graduated with an Associate Degree in Recreational Leadership. Cheri managed a fitness center in her twenties and even placed third in a New York State's woman's body building competition.

Getting back into music in 1992, Cheri traveled from the FL Keys to Montana playing music with a few different bands throughout the 90's.

In 1997, Cheri founded Rhythm & Rain. She helped bring success to the duo with her creative talent and smooth harmony for seven years. Her unique array of mostly latin percussion instruments gave that full rhythm signature sound the duo was known for. In 1998, the duo was awarded as a top musical group in the folk category by a coastal musician association. In April of 2004, after the dissolving of the duo, Cheri formed "Island of Rhythm". This has grown from Cheri playing and hiring a few groups to now an entertainment agency. In 2003, Cheri was hired by Greg "Fingers" Taylor (Jimmy Buffett's x-harmonica player for 26 years) to play with his Blues Band at The Earth Day Celebration in Jackson, Mississippi. In 2005, Cheri was asked to put together a band for the annual Gulfport Chamber's Margaritafest. She put a super parrothead star studded band together with "Fingers Taylor" & "Sunny Jim" among some of her local musician friends. Now, post "Katrina", Cheri and her bands can be found at many of the local casinos that have reopened on the MS Coast.
